Teaching

The Department of Histology and Embryology is teaching fundamentals of histology and embryology for the secondary year general medicine students. The learning curriculum includes: Histophysiology of tissues in Microscopic and Submicroscopic level, Systematic and Organic Histology, Experimental Histology as well as the Basics of Early Human development. Annually, the Department provides lectures and academic instructions for about 400 medial students (including over 60 foreigners), and for over 100 none-medical students.

The Department owns one microscopy laboratories equipped with modern facilities such as image demonstration system. In the Experimental Histology class, every student is supplied with an Olympus binocular microscope and over 50 kinds of different histological slides. The Department also owns an Embryological Museum with more than 50 items. The collection of the Museum includes spontaneously aborted normal embryos and embryos with various defects at different stages of development.

  

Research

Currently, the Department of Histology and Embryology has a number of talented faculties including 1 professor, 2 associated professors, 4 lecturers and 2 technicians. Seven of them have doctoral degrees and one have master's degrees. It has formed a highly educated, well-structured and energetic academic team.

 In recent years, the Department of Histology and Embryology has continuously improved its scientific research strength. It has carried out systematic researches on the pathological mechanisms and innovative drug targets of neural development-related neuropsychiatric diseases, and on the repair and regeneration of central nervous system injuries. A series of important results has been achieved. The department has undertaken nearly 20 programs, including the National Key Research and Development Programs, the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), the Major Program and General Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Provincial and Ministerial programs.
