Department of Surgery

The surgery department of the medical school of South-East university was build up in 1935, and named medical school of central university initially. Many famous specialists or surgeons had been learning or working here under the guidance of the chief professor Maokui Huang, Yongcheng Leng etc.

Our surgery department nowadays has developed general surgery, orthopedics, urinary surgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery and ICU departments, most departments are in clinical leading subjects of Jiangsu province. Besides, our orthopedics, urinary surgery and plastic surgery are very famous in china, many patients far from Jiangsu province come for treatments.

Every year the surgery department will give lectures to the students from clinical, medical iconography, nursing, ecsomatics, public health specialty etc. Among all surgery teachers, we have 18 professors and 30 associated professors. Mainly the lectures were given by professors or associated professors from different surgery departments and got good reviews. We in 1982 were authorized to train clinical master in the first group. Lately in 2010 we were authorized to educate MD and PHD. Now we have 6 doctoral supervisors and 20 master tutors, and cultivate 5-10 MDs or PHDs and more than 30 masters every year. Besides we cooperate with some Europe university in cultivating each year 2-3 PHD students.

Our surgery department also give students great opportunity to train their research abilities. We have a surgery research center which provides enough instruments and good conditions for students or surgeons to do their research. All students here can do their research in the center and get the directions from their tutor or other teachers working in the lab. In recent 5years, the surgery research center has got 20s research programs from Natural Science Foundation of China, and published hundreds of papers. Every year, more than 30 students joint our research center and finish their training and program.
